Municipality of Jasper includes child care expenses for councillors

Municipalities are making it easier and more desirable for councillors who are also parents to fulfill the duties of being on council while still fulfilling their responsibilities as a parent.

The Municipality of Jasper for example, has a provision within the Council Member Remuneration and Benefits Procedure that allows parents to be reimbursed for reasonable child care expenses incurred while attending meetings, conferences, and conventions or seminars in an official capacity. This monetary allowance provides additional support to both men and women as well as helping to create the opportunity that parents have to participate in their communities on behalf of their council.

If your municipality has a similar policy, we want to hear about it! Please send information to mkane [at] auma.ca (mkane[at]auma[dot]ca)
