Whereas Clauses

WHEREAS in 2011 AUMA released a Water Primer and Discussion Paper (WPDP) to serve as a catalyst for discussion on water issues;

WHEREAS in 2012 the AUMA Board of Directors issued the mandate of developing Municipal Water Policies and approved advancing polices over a number of years with 2012 policies focused on water allocation and the viability of municipal water systems;

WHEREAS AUMA developed policy statements and sought members’ input through workshops, webinars, Digest articles, and the June Mayors Caucus; and

WHEREAS at its June meeting, the AUMA Board of Directors considered members’ input and adopted the policies for consideration at the 2012 Convention.

Government Response

December 2012 - Alberta Transportation
The Government of Alberta is continuing to review this comprehensive policy paper and is agreement with many of the recommendations on funding. 
 
March 2013 - Environment and Sustainable Resource Development
The Government of Alberta applauds AUMA for its proactive development of water policies and leadership in conservation and indicates that the policies are in general alignment with provincial direction. It notes that there are a number of specific recommendations, such as those concerning funding and regional systems, which will be used to inform future policy development. However it does not outline a specific approach for following through on any of the recommendations.
