Transportation

Sustainable transportation systems contribute to the economic, environmental, social and cultural health of communities. They increase mobility, connecting people and driving economic growth while also reducing environmental impact.

The following links include resources that can help municipalities make their transportation systems more sustainable and more conducive to a variety of users. Although this isn’t an exhaustive list of resources, it’s a good starting point for municipalities interested in taking action:

Asset management

All Alberta municipalities own, operate and maintain various infrastructure assets, such as roads, sewers, and municipal buildings, each with a defined service life. Service life is the length of time an asset provides an acceptable level of quality, quantity, reliability, cost and responsiveness. Municipalities must ensure the full service-life is attained while keeping maintenance, rehabilitation and/or the replacement of assets cost-effective.
