Reporting to the Lead, Communications, this position will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of strategic communications for assigned client groups. They will also be responsible for issues monitoring on traditional and social media platforms, and communicating client programs / services / initiatives to relevant audiences in support of the City’s strategic goals.

The Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with all levels of the organization, and external stakeholders, as required. This position must professionally represent the organization and maintain a positive working relationship internally and externally, with all media and community stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related discipline. A minimum of three years of communications experience is required. Experience in graphic design, photography and other visual media is seen as an asset. The successful candidate will be well versed in social media platforms; online content management systems; print production; coordinating large projects; marketing and public relations as well as supporting community events and developing awareness campaigns. The successful candidate will also provide a current Criminal Record Check as part of the hiring process.
