Reporting to the Manager, the Community Services Coordinator is responsible to work with and provide leadership to Council appointed volunteer boards, local community groups and , not for profit agencies and  identified municipal partners. The incumbent will build strong working relationships and develop partnerships.

Core Accountabilities:

  • In conjunction with the Manager, coordinate all aspects of the Community Recreation Funding Program.
  • Develop strong working relationships, with Council appointed volunteer boards; provide ongoing guidance and expertise as required. 
  • Liaise with community organizations and community members within Rocky View County and neighbouring municipalities to collaborate, partner, and deliver meaningful outcomes.
  • Attend regular evening meetings as required.
  • Monitor, evaluate and update key documents in conjunction with Manager.
  • Organizational development through Board orientation and governance support, strategic and business planning facilitation, bylaw consultation and review, meeting management, operational policies and procedures and organizational assessments.
  • Land stewardship through lease/licence execution, grant consultation, life cycle planning and facilitation of construction development as defined by County policy and requirements.
  • In conjunction with the appropriate recreation board, work in collaboration with neighbouring municipalities and school boards to develop partnerships and potential joint use opportunities.
  • Provide consultation services to community organizations and members of the community within the County and neighbouring municipalities.
  • Present clear and concise information to volunteer boards as required.
  • Act as an intermediary to resolve conflict between community boards and community groups.
  • Work with community groups to develop long term business plans and life cycle plans.
  • In conjunction with Manager, prepare reports as required.
  • In conjunction with Manager, collaborate with neighbouring municipalities in the development of inter-municipal recreation cost sharing agreements.
  • Undertake research and special projects as requested, identify emerging trends and recommend changes based on best practices.
  • Attend inter-municipal meetings as requested.
  • Act in a professional and responsible manner to protect the integrity of employees and the business of the County.
  • Display a professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to employees, business and residents of Rocky View County.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety Legislation and Rocky View safe work policies and procedures at all times, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and environment.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, along with a minimum of three to six years of diversified experience.

  • Communicate regularly with the Manager.
  • Demonstrate time management, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare and deliver reports as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of grant funding applications.
  • Represent the County in a liaison role; demonstrate superior customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate and model best practices where applicable.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attend regular evening meetings as required.
  • Show initiative and creativity.
  • Possess the ability to work independently with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Experience in facilitation, public presentations, and processing detailed information.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in immediate management accounting.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access).
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
