As the Economic Development Coordinator for the Town of Olds, you will be a key contributor to the success of our local economy and in making Olds a great place in which to live, work and play. Every day you will collaborate with developers, business owners, staff, and community members to make Olds an attractive place to start or expand a business or invest in business opportunities. To be successful in this role you must be a motivated professional with experience in the promotion of economic growth through business and investment strategies, understanding that every community has different advantages to be used to make it a thriving community; that there is no cookie cutter approach to economic development, that a variety of tools and approaches are needed for each unique situation.
The Town of Olds strives for a culture focused on our vision of being dedicated, helpful and knowledgeable. In 2019, the Town issued 108 development permits with a value of $33,528,760. Despite COVID, in 2020 the Town issued 92 permits for a value of $30,839,664. Olds is home to approximately 610 businesses, of which about 150 are home-based, a growing industrial base, and the annexation of 480 acres underway. We are looking for a person with successful economic development experience:
- Creating an economic development and tourism strategy tailored to our community.
- Building positive relationships and collaborating on development and business opportunities with many different stakeholders at the provincial, regional, and local level.
- Leading volunteer boards with a focus on economic development, tourism, business retention, expansion, and attraction.
- Creating and keeping community profile documents up to date with relevant information that will be given to developers and business owners to provide information on the community and its opportunities.
