The Town of Okotoks is seeking a talented and experienced leader to join our team.
Reporting to the Protective Services Director, the Fire Services Manager is responsible for providing strong leadership and direction to a composite fire service which includes a Deputy Fire Chief, 4 captains, 20 full-time firefighters, 30+ community firefighters, and administrative assistance. This position will assume responsibility for developing and monitoring policy and practices, implementing and monitoring a long-term corporate and community wide strategies along with promoting the Town’s Fire prevention leadership initiatives.
This position will also direct Emergency Management activities, reporting to Council and handling media inquiries and dealing with government agencies relating to Fire Services and Emergency Management.
As a member of the Management Team, the successful candidate will foster strong team dynamic, promoting cross-functional and highly collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders on initiatives that reflect the Town’s strategic directions and coprorate values.
The successful incumbent will ideally have a degree in Fire Services Administration or related field as well as a minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressively senior roles, including supervisory or management experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. The incumbent must have extensive knowledge of fire inspections, the Fire code and Building code. Advanced public relations and written & oral communication skills are a strong asset. Strong organizational skills, analytical and technical aptitude is required. The successful candidate must maintain “verifiable reliability” security clearance.
