We are currently recruiting for the right person to fill the position of Municipal Policing Services Manager. This Department Head position is responsible for the overall management of the Municipal Police Services Department.  The Manager is responsible for the leadership of municipal staff; working closely with the RCMP’s Officer In Charge (Supt) and their Staff to support the Municipal Police Service Agreement (MPSA); provide oversight and recommendations related to the implementation of the MPSA; management, maintenance, and operation of related facilities and equipment; financial, technical and operational planning and implementation, and program development and direction.

This position is responsible for establishing a visible and collaborative partnership with the RCMP while providing effective and efficient support and delivery of policing services in Red Deer. Working as a leader, this position develops and manages programs delivered by municipal staff including reviewing and optimizing business processes and developing relationships with appropriate staff. As well, this position provides oversight and fiduciary management of the MPSA by reviewing the procurement of goods and services authorized through the MPSA to ensure effective and efficient use of City funds.

Ideally to fill this role you will have a university degree in a related field, plus five years in a progressively more senior level in a municipal or police setting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

In addition you will have:

  • Strong relationship, team-building, listening and leadership skills.
  • A thorough knowledge of relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations. 
  • Must pass and retain RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
  • Possess above average leadership qualities.
  • Ability to resolve conflict during controversial situations and lead by example.
  • Demonstrated public relations skills, including the ability to speak effectively in public and work cooperatively with the media.
