Reporting to the Director, Public Works, the Senior Manager, Environmental Services directs the overall vision of the Environmental Services Branch of the Public Works Department. The Senior Manager aligns all the branch’s overall goals with the Municipal Strategic Plan, ensuring that employees are carrying out the proper functions to allow the department to provide efficient, innovative, and influential service delivery.
The ideal candidate will possess an Engineering or Science degree, along with 12 years of concentrated and progressive experience in an environmental management or operations capacity, preferably within a medium to large size municipality/city, or within the natural resources sector. A minimum of five years must have been spent in a management level. The Senior Manager, Environmental Services must have experience within one of the following areas: waste management, water and wastewater treatment plant operations, underground utilities services, or sustainable initiatives/operations excellence.
The successful candidate will have experience developing a strategy within the municipal environmental management field. They will have experience working within and introducing transformational change in a complex organization. The successful candidate will be an empowering leader, with proven communication and interpersonal skills, including problem-solving, negotiation, facilitation and mediation. They will be a strong project manager, with the ability to employ innovative approaches to situations involving rapid change. Experience working in a public-sector environment with both unionized and non-unionized employees would be considered an asset.
