Funding for community groups in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary

January 4, 2017

Alberta’s non-profit community groups will have the opportunity to receive a portion of the $2 million being invested by the province in recognition of Canada’s 150th anniversary. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $25,000 through the Community Initiatives Program, which works to support community-based projects throughout Alberta.

To be eligible, proposed community projects must align with at least one of the four Canada 150 themes:

  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Supporting reconciliation efforts of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians
  • Engaging and inspiring youth
  • Connecting Canadians with nature

To encourage participation by small and medium sized groups, the matching requirement has been set at $150 cash per grant. AUMA encourages municipal partners to bring this grant to the attention of their local non-profit organizations to ensure that communities benefit from this funding.
