Municipal recycling success stories featured on AUMA website

August 10, 2017

New municipal recycling examples and initiatives are available on AUMA’s updated Waste Management Hub.

The Town of Taber’s Municipal Solid Waste Initiative (MSWI) is one of the examples you will find on our recycle page. In May 2016, Taber implemented the MSIW – a comprehensive three cart collection system for recycling, organic waste, and residual waste. In the 13 months since the project has been live, Taber has been able to divert nearly 72% of residential waste from being landfilled.

The initiative is cost-neutral to taxpayers: not a single user has seen an increased fee on their utility bill. The implementation of the MSWI also resulted in over $85K savings for the town from April 2015 to December 2016. Read the full story to find out more about Taber’s MSWI.

AUMA thanks the Town of Taber for sharing their waste management success story! We invite other municipalities to share their waste management initiatives. Please contact, advocacy@auma.ca if you would like to be featured on our Waste Management Hub.
