Municipalities across Alberta are taking steps to prepare for cannabis legalization. One important task is to ensure appropriate employee drug and alcohol policies are in place. Resources are available for municipalities looking to develop or update these policies:
- The Construction Owners Association of Alberta provides a copy of the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace. This is a best practice alcohol and drug policy that can be adapted to suit the municipal context.
- The Alberta Human Rights Commission outlines educational information, relevant to employers and employees, on how human rights law impacts drug and alcohol dependencies in Alberta workplaces.
