The AUMA is pleased to partner with the Alberta Human Rights Commission (AHRC) to host a Municipal Inclusion Symposium on March 16-17, 2017 in Edmonton. The symposium will provide an opportunity for municipal administrators and elected officials to present, share, and learn about the initiatives that Alberta municipalities are taking to create more welcoming and inclusive communities.
Day 1 includes presentations by municipalities that have received the Community Inclusion grant to demonstrate the breadth of inclusion activities across Alberta. Participants will explore practical processes for how municipal organizations can support diversity and how that knowledge can extend to the broader community to support Indigenous, immigrant, ethno cultural, LGBTQ, people with disabilities and seniors’ communities. Day 2 will involve a half-day education session on gender identity and gender expression and how municipal policies, facilities and services can support the transgender community.
