Royalty review consultation in full swing

The province is currently undertaking a review of the royalty system. The review is intended to establish a strong understanding of the current energy sector and to find opportunities to optimize the return, support continued industry investment, economic diversification, and responsible development.

A summary of responses received so far is found here. They have also released a Facebook page and an archive with topics such as: what are royalties, how are royalties calculated, and how much was collected last year.

The panel announced their plan for undergoing community engagement. Sessions have already been held in Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray, and there are upcoming sessions in October in Calgary and Edmonton.

AUMA will be involved in the royalty review through a review of principles, such as diversification opportunities and responsible resource development.
