Strathcona County has taken a notable step to become more inclusive by joining the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination (CCMARD). CCMARD represents an international network of municipalities under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization that shares practices to improve policies relating to racism, discrimination, exclusion, and intolerance. By joining CCMARD, municipalities pledge to follow its Ten Common Commitments that guide a municipality’s actions to be more inclusive.
Strathcona County is the 17th Alberta municipality to join CCMARD, which represents the second largest share of CCMARD members out of all Canadian provinces. AUMA’s Welcoming and Inclusive Communities (WIC) initiative supports and encourages members to join the coalition. For more information on CCMARD, click here or contact AUMA.
