The Alberta Water and Wastewater Operators Association (AWWOA) is a non-profit organization that serves as a resource for water and wastewater operator training, news and events. Its main focus is to provide in-person and online training for operators whether they are just entering the field, maintaining, or upgrading their certification.
To help small communities, which have difficulty covering the costs of ongoing training required for their operators to maintain certification, the AWWOA offers a 25 per cent discount on registration fees for operators from municipal systems serving fewer than 5,000 people. Are your operators taking advantage of this discount?
The AWWOA also helps municipalities attract quality candidates by producing customizable recruitment materials which are informed by the current regulatory context as well as the insights of working professionals. Municipalities can advertise job opportunities for free on the AWWOA’s Career Postings webpage, which receives more than 5,000 hits each month.
The AWWO also hosts an Annual Operators Seminar every March in Banff to bring water professionals up-to-date on a variety of water and wastewater topics. This year’s seminar, on March 13, will include an interactive session presented by AUMA on how municipal water policies affect operators. The session will provide an overview of AUMA’s water policies, and seek input from operators on emerging issues and opportunities affecting municipal water and wastewater systems.
