Updated Directive for sand and gravel allocation in Alberta

September 13, 2017

Effective September 1, 2017, Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) released an updated Directive outlining how Alberta aggregate (sand and gravel) resources will be allocated on public land in a way that promotes integrated resource management and optimizes benefits for Albertans. This Directive provides municipalities with principles, planning approaches, and requirements (which must be applied) for determining how and if lands can be allocated for resource extraction.

A question and answer sheet has been developed to help guide municipalities through this process. More information on the Alberta Aggregate (Sand and Gravel) Allocation Directive for Commercial Use of Public Land can be found on the AEP website
